Half the chip bank work, 90 minutes back every day: how Ocean Casino Resort reset its cage
With Insight Cash, Ocean Casino Resort eliminated double entry to cut chip bank workload in half, sped average cashier shift close 20 to 25%, and halved daily NRT drop prep.
The challenge
Ocean Casino Resort had run on its original cage and vault system since opening, a system that offered no self-service control. Every line-item change, correction, or deletion required a call to the vendor’s support team to remote in and make the fix, and the vendor had only one support resource available to field those requests.
As Ocean’s business evolved to include more complex needs like online gaming and sports betting, the legacy system didn’t evolve with it. Chip bank reconciliation required staff to manually re-enter data that had already been recorded in Synchros, a step repeated every shift.
The solution
Ocean’s IT team connected with the Insight Cash team at G2E, and after hearing positive feedback from another operator already using the platform, made the move to Insight Cash. The difference was hands-on configuration: the CCT team customized transaction types and workflows to match Ocean’s specific operations rather than asking the property to adapt to a fixed system.
“There’s no system out there that I’m aware of that personalizes it as well as your company… you guys really personalize the transaction types to fit our needs and our customers’ needs, which is huge. You can’t even quantify that.”
The results
Chip bank workload cut in half
Eliminating the double entry between Synchros and the cage system had an immediate, visible impact: chip bank workload dropped by 50%, and closing, once a lengthy manual reconciliation, now takes minutes. Staff noticed the difference within two days of go-live.
Cashiers stay at the window
Cashiers no longer have to leave their window to retrieve funds. Requests are submitted directly through Insight Cash while they continue serving guests, and bankers deliver the funds to the window, keeping lines moving. Combined with the elimination of most manual fill slips, average shift close times have dropped 20–25%, and the team expects that to improve further as staff build familiarity.
NRT drop prep cut from three hours to 90 minutes
Daily NRT drop prep, previously a three-hour process, now takes about 90 minutes, driven by premade banks and system-based balancing that replaced manual, lump-sum spreadsheet entry. If pending state approval for digital forms comes through, the team expects that to fall further, to as little as 45 minutes.
“Now, your system took that away from my hands, from the cage, and put it back in accounting, so they can balance the NRT machines way faster than we could even do it [manually].”
Faster variance detection for accounting
Accounting staff can now identify variances directly within the system instead of manually cross-referencing paperwork, and jackpot scanning surfaces missing slips the same day. Automatic timestamping has also eliminated timestamp exceptions.
A shift in staff confidence
Day-to-day morale changed too: less anxiety around balancing, fewer late nights chasing variances, and the ability for overnight staff to correct their own errors instead of waiting on a vendor to remote in.
What’s next
Ocean Casino Resort is planning to expand its Insight Cash footprint into general cashiering and non-gaming balancing, currently a fully manual process for restaurant reconciliation, as well as implementing Insight Cash at its Motor City location followed by Kiosk Intelligence.
“I’ve been in every single capacity in this industry: table games, promotions, cage, credit, player development, and I can’t get over the responsiveness… it’s like the MasterCard commercial. This cost 20 bucks, this cost 50, having time with your daughter is priceless. Your level of responsiveness is priceless.”
